Coronavirus/COVID-19: Up to date news and information

Volunteering is the Ultimate Exercise in a Democracy. You vote in elections once a year, but when you volunteer, you vote every day about the community you want to live in.

The mission of the Youth Initiative for Civic Engagement is to encourage youth to be involved through partnering with non-profit organizations, establishing independent projects, and become an example of how youth can make a positive impact. We endeavor to foster a positive and healthy atmosphere for our young people and community by showing them the difference they can make in the lives of others.

Started in January of 2011 with a dedicated group of 5 young people, we have grown to over 25 active youth volunteers today. Already the impact is strong and substantial. Our group has participated in numerous projects throughout the Chicago land area. We’ve participated in awareness walks, held food drives to benefit local pantries and have even cooked breakfast for an entire senior home. On Earth Day we participated at various sites to help maintain a clean community, and at the end of the day we planted a small tree that will one day represent the community we live in.

We are planning many upcoming projects that will focus on the needs of specific organizations. We will continue to make a difference in our community and with your involvement and support, we will grow stronger.
