The Census decides more than you think

Why the Census is Important

The Census decides years of policy and budget:

  • Citizens and non-citizens must fill it out.  It does not ask if you are a citizen and your information is confidential and secured by law.
  • Your response helps to direct billions of dollars in federal funds to local communities for schools, health clinics, roads, and public services.
  • Results from the 2020 Census will be used to determine the number of political representation at all levels of government.

How do I take part?

You can do the 2020 Census online right now! All you need is:

  • You should have been mailed or delivered materials for the Census at your door. This has a 12-digit Census ID to help you get started quickly
  • If you don’t have this code, it is still possible to complete the Census online.
  • Only one questionnaire needs to be filled out per household.
  • Once you start, you need to complete the 10-minute questionnaire. Your answers are not saved until it is completed.
